bb Beagle is a small and popular pet dog. The Beagleboard is a small board for developing embedded systems, based on Texas Instruments OMAP3530 platform, which has a DSP and an ARM Cortex A8 microprocessor. The Beagleboard is becoming a pet among a large community of users all over the world! Just visit www.google.com and type in “Beagleboard” – as you type, Google will show you the number of results for the search items. How many results did you see against Beagleboard?
  • The best part about Beagleboard is its cost – it is priced at less than Rs 13,000/- and is available in India through Cranes Software, Bangalore.
  • Beagleboard is an “open source” product. There is a beehive-like community that works in a collaborative mode, answering each other’s questions and solving problems together in beagle community.
  • There are lots of applications around the Beagleboard using open source software. Robots, Digital Signage, Music Players, … Imagine building your own innovative project using Beagleboard and getting world-wide recognition for it!
  • Working on Beagleboard will mean collaboration with a global community. You may begin by browsing at information, then venture asking questions, and finally graduate to answering questions and solving the problems that other novice users are facing!
  • You will need to collaborate within your college to work on Beagleboard – knowledge of software and hardware are both essential. We encourage Computer Science and Electronics Engineering students to come together and form teams.

… Here comes the Bite- BeagleBoard Design Contest- India Edition-2009!!!
Two independent Beagle Board Design Contests- one for students & another for independent professionals has been sponsored by Cranes Software, Texas Instruments & ARM. This design contest based on Beagleboard has been launched on 16th February 2009 with Fabulous Prizes for both students and professionals including one presentation slot for the winner in the prestigious Texas Instruments Technical Conference 2009(normally held around November of each year). The last date for contest submission is 31st July 2009 and the winners will be announced during the TI Technical Conference, November 2009
Here are the rules of the contest:

  • Students from any Engineering college in India can take part in the contest either individually or in a team not exceeding 5 participants can register and participate in the contest
  • Independent professionals in India working on their individual capacity and free time can register and participate in the contest.
  • Design & Develop a project/product with AT LEAST one Beagleboard used in the design
  • It is expected that you or your college will provide the necessary hardware/software for carrying out the project.
  • Individuals are limited to single entry only for the design contest
  • No limits on entry per college. Faculty members can mentor the project.
  • Design entries should not have been submitted to other design contests.
  • Submit a design/project proposal @ http://cranessoftware.com/beaglecontest on or before 31st July 2009

  • During the web-site submission, a form with terms & conditions will be presented. Upon reading and accepting it, the contestants agree to unconditionally abide by the rules and regulations of the contest and the all decisions made by jury.
  • Selected designs based on the submitted proposal will then be directly visited by Jury for project demonstration and short-listing for final selection.
  • You(and your team) must agree to be physically present at the Texas Instruments Technical Fest 2009 (tentatively the 2nd week of November) to demonstrate your product and present the same at a chosen presentation slot.
  • Student Prizes: Up to three prizes will be available for the winning teams – Rs. 50,000/- (First Prize), Rs. 25,000/- (Second Prize), and Rs. 12,500/- (Third Prize)
  • Independent Professional Prizes: Rs.50,000/-(Only Prize) & Poster Presentation Slot at TITC
  • The decision of the judges will be final.
  • Beagleboard is an open-source project- all new content must be open source as determined by OSI.
  • The IP rights, if any, of the project will remain with the students who built the project.
  • Cranes Software will have the right to photograph the projects and use them for publicity.
